Civil War Bluejackets Conference Programme

We are excited to be heading to Annapolis for the Civil War Bluejackets Conference, The Common Navy Sailor in the Long Nineteenth Century, taking place from January 30-February 1 next. The conference will share the work of Civil War Bluejackets and showcase some of the leading American and international research currently being undertaken by scholars of the nineteenth-century sailor. The Conference is funded through The Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK) and is being held in collaboration with the US Naval Academy Museum. You can now explore the full programme of talks for the Conference, either by visiting our Conference page or by clicking directly on the Conference Programme here.

  1. Dr. Shiels,

The program looks very interesting and I am sure that it will be enjoyed by attendees.  Personally, I believe that the session on muster rolls looks to be quite insightful.

Is there any plan to present any of these sessions via Zoom?  Or to record them on Video?  Not all of us find it feasible to travel to Maryland.

    • Hi Barbara, apologies for missing this! Unfortunately we didn’t have the talks on Zoom, but we hoped to have an open access publication come out of the event that will make the research available. We are planning a few more online outputs as well, so I will put notifications of them up as we have them- we might do it too so that if people hav any specific questions beforehand we could answer them in the talk.
